Children & The Arts -- Full House for PANB's Spring Speakers Series Event

The Frazee Gallery at the Saint John Arts Centre was filled to capacity on a beautiful evening in May as PANB presented a panel discussion on the importance of arts education in schools. Arts Education Consultant Dr. Eric Favaro; Andrea Scott, Artistic Director of the Port City Dance Academy; Dr. Rolene Betts, Arts Learning Specialist with the province’s Department of Education; School District 8 Fine Arts Consultant Michael Molloy; and Kate Elman Wilcott, Executive Director of the InterAction Children’s Theatre Co. presented a lively and informed discussion on the role of artists, educators, schools and government in arts education. Two new programs soon to be piloted in NB schools, Learning through the Arts (LTTA) and ArtsSmarts, were also discussed.

PANB’s speakers series, launched in 2005, offers networking opportunities to the arts community, encouraging and promoting future partnerships and growth. Each event encourages community arts organizations and associations to come together in an exchange of ideas and possible solutions to various issues affecting the arts community in our province. PANB has presented panel discussions on a wide variety of topics and issues, including fundraising, media relations, grant-writing, and the arts & technology.

The next speakers series event will be held in Spring 2010.
